In analytical psychology, the “Shadow” (Black) (also known as ego-dystonic complex, repressed id, shadow aspect, or shadow archetype) is an unconscious aspect of the personality that does not correspond with the ego ideal, leading the ego to resist and project the shadow.
Ego (Grey) represents the conscious mind as it comprises the thoughts, memories, and emotions a person is aware of. The ego is largely responsible for feelings of identity and continuity.
The persona (White), is the social face the individual presented to the world—"a kind of mask, designed on the one hand to make a definite impression upon others, and on the other to conceal the true nature of the individual."
Apart from Fine Arts, the only other study that truly struck a chord with me was Psychology. I found myself constantly thinking about the theories of Darwin, Freud, and Jung. Applying these theories and concepts to my personal life as much as possible to have a better understanding of what makes me, me.
This piece is the act or process of accepting the Shadow of the conscious mind while also attempting to dissolve the Persona. The red disks symbolize the point in an individuals life when the Persona is created by the Ego. The lines signify the time throughout an individuals lifetime in which this process may occur. The abstract shape symbolizes the change of presence, these innate parts of the conscious and unconscious mind have before, during, and after said process.
